Our Founding Story

It started with a gap no athlete should face alone.

The Kickoff Experience was born from one athlete’s recruitment journey, and grew into a movement preparing student-athletes for every opportunity that comes after the game.

Where It Began

An athlete searching for the right path.

After high school athletics, Kamryn entered the college recruitment process without the guidance needed to fully understand her power, choices, or long-term possibilities. Like many young athletes, she believed that finding any university where she could continue playing was the goal.

Her experience revealed a larger gap. The sports ecosystem is exceptionally skilled at creating competition and entertainment, but athletes and families are not always given equal access to the information needed to make decisions centered on the athlete’s education, identity, and future.

When Kamryn had her first opportunity to create something for athletes in her community, she acted. At Virginia Union University, she created the school’s first all-sports media day; it was a fun, unifying experience that celebrated athletes across sports and divisions. It proved that athletes deserved to be seen. But she knew visibility alone was not enough.

The Question That Changed Everything

What if sports prepared athletes for more than the next level?

What if the same game that develops discipline, resilience, teamwork, and leadership also became a pathway to education, meaningful work, and a life the athlete chooses?

The Turning Point

From the best-fit school to the best-fit life.

After testing the initial idea for several years, Kamryn realized something was still missing: TKE was helping athletes navigate sports, but it was still asking them to see themselves primarily as athletes.

Through conversations and surveys with students and parents, a clearer purpose emerged. Every athlete will eventually experience a last ball, a last whistle, or a final game. That moment should not be the first time they begin thinking about who they will become next.

That insight gave birth to The Second Uniform™, a movement that helps student-athletes prepare now for the identity, education, career, and impact they want beyond competition.

6%About six percent of high school student-athletes continue into collegiate athletics.
<2%Fewer than two percent ultimately reach professional competition.
100%Every athlete can carry the skills built through sports into what comes next.

Who We Are Today

We help athletes use the game they love to build the life they want.

The Kickoff Experience is a Student Athlete Development Organization. We help athletes identify their best-fit opportunities in sports while giving them the tools to choose those opportunities based on the life they want to live afterward. We translate what sports have already taught them into leadership, career readiness, workforce experience, relationships, and a plan for their Second Uniform.

Sports have been preparing student-athletes for who they can become this whole time. We help them see it—and act on it.
